With a long history of independence, Indonesia has demonstrated its resilience and ability to uphold its status by defeating an armed insurgency. The Indonesian government's choice to accept the diplomatic deal as a step towards preserving independence ultimately disappointed people. The 13 years (1949–1962) DI/TII insurgency in West Java was one of the effects of this disillusionment. The research problems are about the 1945 State Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia is violated and contradicted by the DI/TII ideology, as well as Pancasila. They used the extreme Islamic doctrine as a justification for waging war on the populace in the name of Jihad, viewing anyone who supports the Indonesian government as their enemy. The purpose of this research is to analyse the implementation of A.H. Nasution's thoughts on total people's war strategy in DI/TII West Java counterinsurgency strategy during 1949 to 1962. This research uses qualitative research methods to answer the formulation of the problem to be researched. The research data were obtained from observation, documentation and Interview, which were the technique analyses are data collection, data display, data reduction, conclusion and verification. The results demonstrate that by using the thought of A.H. Nasution, an old insurgency case like DI/TII can be resolved, this shows how the concept of total people's war strategy is very effective even though the times are different from before, the results of the study can provide evaluation or enlightenment to strengthen civil and military relations added with the element of national power can provide benefits to achieve the goals.
